Groovy Cupcakes was the name of my radio show at WXJM, JMU's student run radio station. Since I graduated I no longer have the radio show, but I'm still going to bring you weekly sweet tunes! Check back for new stuff I'm listening to or old stuff I'm falling in love with again.
Here's the story of how Groovy Cupackes came to be.
Once upon a time a girl named Jess discovered JMU had a student run radio station, WXJM. She joined the station and took the 6-8 am time slot on Friday mornings for the spring semester in 2008.
After Jess made her way further into the station, Groovy Cupcakes moved to 6-8pm on Tuesday nights for the fall of 2008. Groovy Cupcakes was right before the talk show, So You Think You Know Sports?
Groovy and So You Think… had a lovely relationship on-air for the following two semesters moving to Monday nights. The great pair came to an end in the spring of 2010 because Groovy Cupcakes was moving in a new direction.
Jess was sick of doing the radio show alone, so she added a co-host, Andrew, to the show. Groovy Cupcakes then became Groovy Cupcakes with a side of Killer Sushi. The show was coming at ya, to the max for the last semester Jess was a JMU student. Jess lived happily ever after. The End.
If you’re in Harrisonburg, VA you can tune in at 88.7fm. If not stream online from wxjm.org. Groovy Cupcakes with a side of Killer Sushi may no longer be on-air, but WXJM still has some pretty awesome DJs holding it down during the school year.
